National day
The national day of Türkiye is 29 October (Republic Day). The MEA brief states that India extended support in the 1920s to Türkiye's War of Independence and the formation of the Turkish Republic. It also records that Vice President Krishan Kant visited Türkiye in October 1998, representing India on the occasion of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Turkish Republic.
ICCR scholarships for Turkish students
The MEA brief of June 2026 describes the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship as an initiative of the Government of India designed to foster global cultural exchange and educational ties. According to the brief, ICCR scholarships are offered to Türkiye, and the brief encourages full use of the available slots. For Academic Year 2026-27, the Government of India has allocated:
- 2 slots under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship (UG, PG & Ph.D)
- 10 slots for studies in Indian culture, including dance and music, theatre, performing art, sculpture, Indian language and Indian cuisine
- 2 slots for a one-year diploma course in Yoga
Students should check current calls for applications, eligibility and deadlines through official Indian government channels, as the brief sets out the slots only.
ITEC professional training
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) is, in the brief's words, the leading capacity building platform of the Ministry of External Affairs. The programme provides fully funded professional training to international candidates at Indian institutions.
During the visit of then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Türkiye in September 2003, he announced the award of ITEC slots to Turkish scholars. According to the MEA brief of June 2026, 25 slots are allocated to Türkiye every year.
Visas and travel
The MEA brief of June 2026 contains no information on visa requirements, fees or processing times for travel between India and Türkiye, or on flights between the two countries. On air links, it records only that civil aviation was among the areas of possible cooperation discussed by Prime Minister Modi and President Erdogan in New Delhi in September 2023.
Travellers, students, workers and business visitors should check current requirements with the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in New Delhi or the consulates in Hyderabad and Mumbai before making plans. Turkish nationals travelling to India should check Indian visa requirements through official Indian government channels.
Honorary consuls
Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services of the Embassy or the consulates. Visa, passport and other consular requirements should always be confirmed with the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in New Delhi or the consulates in Hyderabad and Mumbai.
