This article sets out trade and investment links between India and Jordan: the latest trade figures, the main goods traded, Indian investment in Jordan, ministerial visits, institutional mechanisms and trade promotion events. It is based on the MEA bilateral brief of June 2026, and all figures are given as they appear in that brief.

Trade figures

The brief states that bilateral trade has grown rapidly over the years despite the global economic downturn, and that India is Jordan's 4th largest trading partner. According to the MEA brief of June 2026, bilateral trade in 2025-26 was valued at US$ 3.042 billion, with Indian exports to Jordan amounting to US$ 1.165 billion.

India imports fertilizers, phosphates and phosphoric acid, among other items, from Jordan. It exports electrical machinery, cereals, frozen meat, organic and inorganic chemicals, animal fodders, petroleum products, and engineering and automotive parts, among other items.

Indian investment in Jordan

The brief puts Indian investments in phosphates and textiles at US $1.5 bn. It highlights the following projects and investments:

  • JIFCO, a joint venture project worth US $ 860 million between IFFCO, India, and the Jordan Phosphates Mines Company (JPMC), which produces and exports phosphoric acid to India. It has been commissioned and was inaugurated jointly by Rashtrapatiji Shri Pranab Mukherjee and King Abdullah II in October 2015.
  • A US$ 169.5 million phosphoric acid plant of the Indo-Jordan Chemical Company, commissioned in 1997 between JPMC and Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC). SPIC later sold its stake to JPMC because of financial troubles, and the brief states that the majority of production is still exported to India.
  • Over 15 garment companies owned by NRIs, with a cumulative investment of US$ 500 million, located in the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZs). All finished products are exported outside Jordan under the Jordan-USA FTA.

Institutional mechanisms

A Trade and Economic Joint Committee (TEJC) was constituted under the 1976 Trade Agreement to promote and monitor progress in bilateral trade. The 10th TEJC was held in New Delhi in 2017. As of June 2026, dates for holding the 11th TEJC in 2026 were under deliberation.

The first Joint Working Group Meeting on Fertilizer was held virtually in June 2023. An MoU on Comprehensive Review of Existing Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement is under negotiation, according to the brief.
