National day

The national day of Turkmenistan is 27 September (Independence Day).

Visas and consular matters

The MEA brief of June 2026 does not describe visa or e-visa arrangements for travel between India and Turkmenistan. This guide therefore does not state any visa requirements, fees, processing times or eligibility rules. Travellers, business visitors and students should check current requirements directly with the Embassy of Turkmenistan in New Delhi.

The two governments discuss visa and consular questions through a Consular Dialogue. The 4th round of the India-Turkmenistan Consular Dialogue was held in Ashgabat on 24 January 2025, co-chaired by JS (CPV), MEA and the Head of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. According to the brief, it discussed issues related to visa and consular matters affecting nationals of both countries.

Air connectivity

According to the brief, "Turkmenistan Airlines" operates direct flights between Ashgabat and New Delhi thrice a week, on every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Schedules can change, so travellers should confirm them with the airline before booking.

The brief notes that trade between the two countries faces challenges related to the lack of direct overland connectivity. The Turkmenistan Airlines service is the only direct transport link between India and Turkmenistan that the brief mentions.

Indian nationals in Turkmenistan

In June 2025, more than 100 Indian nationals were evacuated from Iran through Turkmenistan as part of "Operation Sindhu".

About 100 Indian nationals live in Turkmenistan, as described in the culture article.

Turkmen nationals and business visitors in India

The brief records that Turkmen students study in India under ICCR scholarships and that Turkmen youth and media delegations visit India under Central Asia programmes. Turkmen nationals in India who need help from their own government should contact the embassy in New Delhi.

The brief describes trade contacts through the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Turkmenistan and the India-Central Asia Business Council, covered in the trade article.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not provide the full range of services offered by an embassy. Any visa, passport or other consular requirement should be confirmed with the Embassy of Turkmenistan in New Delhi before relying on an honorary consulate in Chennai or Kolkata.
