This article sets out how to contact Switzerland's diplomatic and consular offices in India, and summarises the consular, visa and air connectivity arrangements described in the MEA bilateral brief of June 2026. Contact details are taken from the MEA Protocol Division register as read by Diplo on 24 September 2026.

Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi

The register lists H.E. Ms. Maya Tissafi, Ambassador, as head of mission.

These details are as recorded in the register on 24 September 2026. Addresses, telephone numbers and office holders can change, so readers should check the Embassy's own website for the latest contact information before visiting or writing.

Consulates and honorary consulates

The register lists Swiss Consulates General in Bengaluru and Mumbai, and honorary consulates in Chennai and Kolkata. According to the MEA brief of June 2026, Switzerland presently has Consulate Generals in Bengaluru and Mumbai and Honorary Consuls in Kolkata and Chennai, so the two sources agree.

The Swiss consular presence in Mumbai has a long history. The brief records that during the First World War, Switzerland set up its consulates in key locations around the world, including in Mumbai, to secure food and economic prospects.

Other Swiss offices in India

The brief notes two further Swiss offices: a Swiss Business Hub in Mumbai and a Swissnex office in Bengaluru. The brief does not describe their services, so readers should contact them or the Embassy directly for details.

India's missions in Switzerland

India has an Embassy in Berne and a Consulate General in Geneva. Indian travellers and residents in Switzerland who need help from their own government should approach these offices.

National day

Switzerland's national day is 1 August (Foundation of the Confederation).

Visas and consular arrangements

The brief does not set out visa requirements for ordinary travellers. Readers should check current requirements, fees and procedures directly with the Embassy or the relevant Consulate General before travelling.

The brief lists the following consular and related agreements between the two countries:

  • Agreement on Social Security, 2009
  • Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic Passport, 2016
  • Arrangement on Authorization for Dependent Person of Diplomatic, Consular, Technical and Administrative Staff of Diplomatic and Consular Mission to perform gainful employment, 2016
  • Technical arrangement on the Identification and Return of Swiss and Indian Nationals, 2016, renewed in 2022

The visa exemption agreement applies to holders of diplomatic passports only. It does not cover ordinary passport holders, whose requirements should be confirmed with the Swiss offices listed above.

Consular dialogue

The two countries hold a composite dialogue on Consular and Legal matters. Its first round was held in New Delhi in 2012 and its sixth round in New Delhi in February 2023.

The last round took place in Berne in September 2023. It was co-chaired by Additional Secretary (OIA-I), MEA and the Director International Affairs, State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), Federal Department of Justice & Police (FDJP).

Air connectivity

An Interim Agreement on airlines between Switzerland and India was concluded in 1949. The brief states that an Air Services Agreement (ASA) was signed in May 2001, and that the two sides presently have an open sky policy. A Protocol amending the India-Switzerland Air Services Agreement was signed in March 2020.

Swiss Airlines began direct flights to Delhi in December 2007. As of June 2026, the brief states that Swiss Air operates direct daily flights to Delhi and Mumbai under a code sharing arrangement with Air India. After a gap of 27 years, Air India started direct flights from Zurich to Delhi on 16 June 2024, with a frequency of four flights per week.

Honorary consuls and confirming requirements

Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services of an embassy or consulate general. Visa, passport and other consular requirements should always be confirmed with the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi or the Consulates General in Bengaluru and Mumbai before making plans.
