National day
The UN Blue Book lists Russia's national day as 12 June (Day of Russia).
India's consulates in Russia
According to the MEA brief of June 2026, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar inaugurated the Consulate Generals of India in Kazan and Yekaterinburg during his visit to Russia in November 2025. Indian nationals in Russia who need consular help should contact the Indian missions there.
Visas and tourism
The brief states that people-to-people ties "remain strong with gradual increase in bilateral tourism", and that the facility of e-visas for both countries has helped accelerate this process. In 2025, more than 90,000 Indians visited Russia and more than 1,70,000 Russians visited India.
The brief has no other information on visa rules. Diplo therefore gives no visa requirements, fees, processing times or eligibility rules. Anyone planning to travel to Russia should check current requirements, including whether the e-visa facility applies to their trip, with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in New Delhi or one of its consulates.
Among the fields of the 16 MoUs and Agreements signed at the 23rd Annual Summit in New Delhi in December 2025, the brief lists Mobility.
Indian students and workers in Russia
The brief puts the number of Indian students in Russian institutes at about 20,000, studying disciplines such as medicine, engineering and economics, with medical students forming the largest group.
It also states that in the last two years the annual quota for Indian workers has been raised to 72,000. In 2025, more than 60,000 Indian workers arrived in Russia, engaged primarily in construction, logistics, textiles and delivery services.
Anyone planning to study or work in Russia should confirm the current visa and residence rules with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in New Delhi or a Russian consulate before making arrangements.
Air services
The brief contains no information on air services or direct flights between the two countries. Travellers should check current routes and schedules with the airlines concerned.
Honorary consuls
Honorary consuls in Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services of an embassy or consulate. Any visa, document or other requirement should be confirmed with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in New Delhi, or one of the consulates in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai, before relying on an honorary consulate.
