The register does not give office hours or a list of services, and this guide does not provide them. Readers should telephone or email the High Commission to confirm how it receives visitors and handles applications.
These details are as recorded in the register on 24 September 2026. Contact details of missions can change, and the MEA Protocol Division register is the official Indian record to check against if the details above no longer work.
Head of mission
The register lists the head of mission as H.E. Mr. Vincent Somale, High Commissioner.
Consulates and honorary consulates
The register lists no consulates and no honorary consulates of PNG in India. All enquiries should therefore go to the High Commission in New Delhi, including those from readers in other Indian cities, who can make contact by telephone or email.
National day
Papua New Guinea's national day is 16 September (Independence Day).
The brief records two Indian contributions to the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of PNG's Independence Day in 2025. At the invitation of the Government of PNG, Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Pabitra Margherita visited Port Moresby on 16 September 2025 as the representative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister James Marape. INS Kadmatt visited Port Moresby from 30 August to 8 October 2025 to take part in the celebrations, and led the International Fleet Review.
India's High Commission in Port Moresby
India opened its High Commission in Port Moresby in April 1996. Before that, diplomatic relations with PNG were conducted from Suva and Kuala Lumpur. The High Commission is India's official point of contact for PNG nationals planning travel to India and for Indian nationals in PNG.
Visa waiver for official passports
An MoU on visa waiver for diplomatic and official passport holders was signed during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Port Moresby for the 3rd FIPIC Summit in May 2023. The brief records it alongside a second MoU signed on that occasion, on establishing Foreign Office Consultations, which is described in the relations article.
Other visas and travel
The brief does not describe visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports travelling in either direction, e-visa arrangements, fees or processing times.
Readers should check current requirements with the PNG High Commission in New Delhi before travelling to PNG, and with India's High Commission in Port Moresby before travelling to India. Requirements can change, and only the missions can confirm what applies to a particular trip.
Business and study enquiries
Trade figures and trade contacts are described in the development and trade article of this guide, and education cooperation in the culture and education article.
A note on honorary consuls
The register lists no honorary consuls of PNG in India. Honorary consuls, where a country appoints them, have limited powers. For PNG, all visa, passport and other consular requirements should be confirmed directly with the High Commission in New Delhi.
