All facts come from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) bilateral brief of June 2026.

Overview

According to the MEA brief of June 2026, India accords importance to deepening Development Partnership ties with Nicaragua. The brief cites the establishment of an IT training centre in Managua and India's Lines of Credit (LoCs) as evidence of this.

Lines of credit

India has extended three LoCs to Nicaragua for various projects in the power sector:

  • US$ 10 million in 2013. The project was completed in June 2019.
  • US$ 26.24 million in August 2014, under execution as of the brief.
  • US$ 31.29 million in 2016, under execution as of the brief.

The brief states that the projects undertaken under the LoCs are well appreciated by the Government of Nicaragua. It also records a recent inauguration of substation and transmission line projects under India's Lines of Credit for power infrastructure.

The Government of India has also approved two more LoCs to Nicaragua in the health sector.

Quick Impact Projects

In December 2024, India and Nicaragua signed an umbrella agreement for Quick Impact Projects (QIPs). According to the brief, the agreement targets tangible benefits for local communities in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare and sanitation.
