  • Chennai
  • Mumbai

The register does not set out the area each office covers or the services it offers. Readers outside Delhi should confirm with the Embassy, or with the consulate in Kolkata, which office can help with their enquiry before visiting.

National day

Myanmar's national day is 4 January (Independence Day).

Border and connectivity

According to the MEA brief of June 2026, India and Myanmar are linked by a 1,643-km land border and a maritime boundary of 1098 kms in the Bay of Bengal. The brief states that Myanmar occupies a position of strategic importance for India as the only ASEAN country sharing both a land and maritime boundary with India, serving as a gateway connecting India's Northeast with Southeast Asia.

The two countries have memoranda of understanding on Border Cooperation and Maritime Cooperation, which the brief lists among the mechanisms of defence and security cooperation. Shipping cooperation agreements and SOPs were concluded between July 2025 and January 2026.

The brief names the following major connectivity projects among those in India's development assistance portfolio:

  • the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), including a 109 km road from Paletwa to the India-Myanmar border
  • the IMT Trilateral Highway, linking India's Northeast with Myanmar
  • Sittwe Port, part of KMMTTP, which was inaugurated in May 2023 and had berthed over 301 vessels by 15 May 2026

Payments for trade

To facilitate trade, the Rupee-Kyat Trade Settlement Mechanism has been operational since 25 January 2024. As of June 2026, it has processed over 130 transactions amounting to approximately INR 102 crore, according to the brief.

Visas and consular matters

The brief contains no information on visa requirements, e-visas, border crossing procedures or air connections between India and Myanmar. This guide therefore gives no visa fees, processing times or eligibility rules.

Indian nationals planning travel to Myanmar should check current requirements with the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar in New Delhi or its consulate in Kolkata. Myanmar nationals planning travel to India, including students taking up ICCR scholarships and participants in ITEC courses, should check current requirements through official Indian government channels.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls have limited powers and offer only some of the services of an embassy or consulate. Visa, passport and other consular requirements for Myanmar should always be confirmed directly with the Embassy in New Delhi or the consulate in Kolkata before an application is made or travel is booked.
