According to the register, the head of mission is Mdm. Sharifah Ezneeda Wafa, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. The register lists a Chargé d'Affaires a.i., not a High Commissioner, as head of mission on the date it was read.

The register lists Malaysian consulates in the following Indian cities:

  • Chennai
  • Mumbai

It also lists a Malaysian honorary consulate in Kolkata.

The register lists these offices by city only.

National day

The national day of Malaysia is 31 August.

Visas for travel between India and Malaysia

According to the MEA brief of June 2026, two arrangements facilitate tourism between the two countries:

  • Malaysia's visa waiver regime for short term visits by Indian nationals, in place from December 2023 and extended until 31 December 2026.
  • India's 30-day double-entry e-Tourist visas on a gratis basis for Malaysian nationals, in place from July 2024 and extended until 31 December 2026.

Both arrangements had been extended until 31 December 2026 as of the brief, which does not say whether they will continue after that date. Travellers should check the current requirements with the High Commission of Malaysia before travelling to Malaysia, and Malaysian nationals should check India's current rules through official Indian government channels.

OCI for Malaysians of Indian origin

The brief records that in October 2025 the Government of India extended OCI to the descendants, up to the sixth generation, of PIOs in Malaysia. It also revised and simplified the procedures used to establish Indian Origin for Malaysian applicants.

Flights

As of June 2026, according to the brief, 199 flights per week operated between the two countries, covering 14 destinations in India. These are serviced by three airlines from Malaysia, namely Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air and AirAsia, and by two airlines from India, Air India and IndiGo.

Figures for the number of travellers using these services are given in this guide's article on culture, education and the Indian community.

India's High Commission in Malaysia

For Indian nationals in Malaysia, the brief refers to India's High Commission, which organises cultural events with the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Center in Kuala Lumpur.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services provided by the High Commission and the consulates. Visa, passport and other consular requirements should always be confirmed with the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi or the relevant consulate.
