This article gives the contact details of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi and its consulate in Mumbai, together with the visa, travel advisory, flight and consular information in the MEA bilateral brief of June 2026. Contact details, the head of mission and the list of consulates are taken from the MEA Protocol Division register, read on 24 September 2026.

Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi

According to the register, the head of mission is Mr. Oday Hatim Mohammed, Chargé d'Affaires a.i.

Consulate in Mumbai

The register lists an Iraqi consulate in Mumbai.

According to the MEA brief of June 2026, Iraq maintains its consulate in Mumbai largely for religious visas to Indians. The register gives the consulate by city only; its address and telephone number should be obtained from the embassy.

National day

The national day of Iraq is 3 October (Independence Day).

Indian visas issued in Iraq

The brief records that about 29,826 Indian visas, mostly for medical treatment, were issued in Baghdad and 5117 in Erbil, totalling 34,943 visas in 2025. These are visas issued by India's missions in Iraq to travellers coming to India. The brief does not describe India's visa categories for Iraqi nationals, and Iraqi travellers should check India's current requirements through official Indian government channels.

India's missions in Iraq

India opened its Consulate in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region, in August 2016. The brief states that it was opened to further strengthen economic and commercial relations with Iraq.

India has also announced that it will open a Consulate in Najaf, to facilitate Indians visiting for pilgrimage and the large Indian diaspora living in the area. Contact details for India's missions in Iraq are not in the brief and should be obtained from official Indian government sources.

Travel advisory

The Government of India revised its Travel Advisory for Iraq in February 2019, allowing Indian nationals to travel selectively to safer areas of Iraq. Travellers should read the current advisory issued by the Government of India before planning a visit.

Flights

According to the brief, in light of the recent West Asia conflict, Iraqi Airways is operating five flights per week on the Delhi-Baghdad-Delhi route. Iraqi Airways also operates on the Najaf-Mumbai and Najaf-Ahmedabad sectors.

Air India started operations to Iraq after more than 25 years for a short period, from February to November 2014, to Najaf. Schedules should be checked with the airlines.

Visa rules

Apart from the role of the Mumbai consulate, the brief does not describe Iraqi visa categories, e-visa arrangements, fees or eligibility rules, including for pilgrims. This guide therefore does not state any visa requirements. Travellers, including pilgrims and workers, should check current requirements directly with the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi or the consulate in Mumbai.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not provide the full range of services offered by an embassy or a consulate. The register lists no Iraqi honorary consulates in India, and any visa, passport or other consular requirement should be confirmed with the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi or the consulate in Mumbai.
