The MEA brief of June 2026 gives a different list of honorary consulates: Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The brief uses the name Bangalore for the city that the register lists as Bengaluru. Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are not in the register read on 24 September 2026, so readers in those cities should confirm with the embassy whether an honorary consulate operates there.
National day
The national day of Finland is 6 December (Independence Day).
Air connectivity and tourism
According to the MEA brief of June 2026, there is a daily direct flight between Helsinki and New Delhi. The brief states that this flight has encouraged travel between the two countries.
The brief names Goa, Kerala and the Golden Temple as the favourite destinations of Finnish tourists in India, and adds that other destinations are also becoming popular.
Migration and mobility agreements
The brief records three instruments on the movement of people between India and Finland:
- a Joint Declaration of Intent on Migration and Mobility, signed during the visit of Finland's Minister of Employment, Ms. Tuula Haatainen, who travelled to Delhi and Mumbai with a Team Finland delegation on 12-17 December 2022
- an MoU between Business Finland and the Confederation of Indian Industry, signed during the same visit with the aim of increasing the mobility of experts between the two countries
- an MoU on Migration and Mobility Partnership between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Finnish Ministry of Employment, signed in March 2026
Visas
On visas, the brief states only that the e-visa facility has boosted tourism from Finland. It gives no visa rules, fees or procedures, and it does not explain how the mobility arrangements above operate in practice.
Travellers from India to Finland, including students and people taking up work, should check current visa and residence requirements with the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi or the consulate in Mumbai.
India's Embassy in Helsinki
Indian nationals in Finland who need help from their own government should contact the Embassy of India in Helsinki. The brief gives its website as www.indembhelsinki.gov.in and its Twitter handle as @IndEmb_Fin, and states that the Embassy also has Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The brief states that the number of Indian students at Finnish universities has grown in recent years, and that around 2400 Indian students were pursuing higher education in Finland as of June 2026. The Embassy holds regular interactions with them under its "Terve-Namaste" series.
Honorary consuls
Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not provide the full range of services offered by an embassy or a career consulate. Visa, document and other consular requirements should be confirmed with the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi or the consulate in Mumbai before relying on an honorary consulate in Bengaluru, Chennai or Kolkata.
