Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement

According to the MEA brief of July 2026, India and Denmark signed a Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA) on 22 Feb 2024 in New Delhi. It was signed by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen for Denmark. The brief states that the agreement aims to set up a framework to facilitate mobility and employment opportunities for skills and talents from both sides.

The inaugural Joint Working Group meeting on the MMPA was held in Copenhagen on 27-28 February 2025. Labour Mobility is also one of the fields in which Joint Working Groups between the two countries' line ministries function.

Recruitment of healthcare workers from Kerala

In January 2026, Denmark's Minister for Senior Citizens, Mette Kierkegaard, visited India and signed a 5-year partnership agreement with the State of Kerala to recruit nurses and social and healthcare assistants for Danish elderly care. The initiative is managed by NORKA Roots, Government of Kerala, and aims to facilitate the movement of healthcare professionals to Denmark.

Anyone interested in this programme should rely only on information from NORKA Roots, the Government of Kerala or the Danish authorities.

Visas and consular matters

Apart from the MMPA and the Kerala agreement, the MEA brief does not describe visa, e-visa or other consular arrangements for travel between India and Denmark, and it does not mention air connectivity. This guide therefore does not state any visa requirements, fees, processing times or eligibility rules.

Travellers, students, workers and business visitors should check current requirements directly with the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi or the consulate in Bengaluru before applying.

India's embassy in Denmark

The brief refers to the Embassy of India in Denmark, which organises community and cultural events described elsewhere in this guide.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services provided by the Embassy and the consulate. Visa, passport and other consular requirements should always be confirmed with the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi.
