The two countries' missions

According to the MEA brief of March 2026, diplomatic relations between India and Croatia were established on 9 July 1992. Croatia opened its Resident Mission in New Delhi in February 1995, and the brief names Drago Štambuk as the first Ambassador of Croatia to India.

On the Indian side, the Indian Mission in Zagreb was opened on 28 April 1996 and upgraded to Ambassadorial level in January 1998. The brief refers to it as the Embassy of India in Zagreb.

Visas and passports

In 2007, India and Croatia signed an Agreement on Exemption of Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic and Official / Service Passports. The agreement covers only holders of those passports.

The brief has no information on visas for holders of ordinary passports, such as tourists, students, business visitors or workers. Diplo therefore gives no visa requirements, fees, processing times or eligibility rules. Anyone planning to travel to Croatia should check current requirements with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in New Delhi.

The brief records that Croatia has joined the Schengen Zone and adopted the Euro currency on 1 January 2023. How current entry rules apply to a particular passport and trip should be confirmed with the Embassy.

Families of diplomats

India and Croatia also signed an Agreement on Gainful Occupation of Family Members of Diplomatic and Consular Posts in 2018. The brief lists it among the important bilateral agreements between the two countries. Family members of mission staff should ask their own mission how it applies to them.

Air services

A Modified Air Services Agreement between the two countries dates from 2000. Croatian Airlines and Air India entered into a Code Share Agreement in November 2016, which came into effect on 1 April 2017.

The brief gives no information on current routes, frequencies or schedules between India and Croatia. Travellers should check these with the airlines concerned.

Honorary consuls

Honorary consuls in Kolkata and Mumbai have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services of an embassy. Any visa, document or other requirement should be confirmed with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in New Delhi before relying on an honorary consulate.
