India's representation in Costa Rica
According to the brief, the Indian Embassy in Panama is concurrently accredited to Costa Rica, and India appointed an Honorary Consul General in San José in 2022. Indian nationals in Costa Rica who need help from their own government should check how to reach these offices through official Indian government channels, as the brief does not give their contact details.
Visas for Indian travellers
According to the MEA brief of June 2026, Indian nationals may enter Costa Rica as tourists for a stay of up to one month if they hold a valid US, Schengen or Canadian multiple-entry tourist or business visa with at least six months' validity.
The brief gives no other rules for tourists, and does not describe fees, processing times or eligibility for other categories of visa. Travellers should confirm current requirements with the Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica before making plans.
Work and family visas
The brief notes that work authorisation and employment visas for spouses of Indian IT and other professionals can take two to three years to process. Professionals considering a move to Costa Rica with their families should confirm current procedures with the embassy and with their employers well in advance.
Consular Dialogue
The first India-Costa Rica Consular Dialogue was held in San José in November 2025. It was led by the Ambassador of India and Costa Rica's Vice Minister of Bilateral Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Lydia Peralta. Discussions covered visas, consular access, migration, extradition and the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
The brief does not report the outcome of these discussions on specific visa or consular procedures. Readers affected by any of these subjects should ask the embassy about current procedures.
Air connectivity
Travellers should check routes with airlines.
Honorary consuls
Costa Rica has no honorary consulates in India according to the register. Where honorary consuls exist, they have limited powers and do not offer the full range of services of an embassy. Any visa, document or other requirement should be confirmed with the Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica in New Delhi.
