Visas for Indian travellers to Bolivia
According to the MEA brief of June 2026, India is in the Group-II countries for Bolivian visas. The visa application form needs to be submitted online approximately 20 days before the expected travel date.
The brief states that Indian travellers therefore fall within neither a "visa on arrival" category nor an "e-visa" category. It advises all Indians to obtain a visa in India before travelling to Bolivia. The brief does not give fees or processing times, and travellers should confirm the current requirements with the Embassy of Bolivia before booking.
e-Visa for Bolivian nationals
According to the brief, India has extended the e-Visa facility to Bolivian nationals with effect from 5 August 2015. Bolivian travellers should check the current conditions of the facility through official Indian government channels before travelling.
Diplomatic and official passports
The Visa Exemption Agreement for diplomatic and official passports, signed during the 2019 State Visit, came into force on 29 June 2019. As its title indicates, it covers diplomatic and official passports only, and holders of ordinary passports should check the requirements that apply to them with the relevant mission.
India's Embassy in La Paz
Indians travelling to or living in Bolivia can turn to India's resident Mission in La Paz, which opened on 17 September 2024. Before that, from April 1981, the Embassy of India in Lima was concurrently accredited to Bolivia.
Shri Rohitkumar R. Vadhwana (IFS 2010 batch) assumed charge on 19 March 2025. During his visit in November 2025, Minister of State Pabitra Margherita inaugurated the new Chancery building and India House in La Paz, and held meetings with ITEC alumni, cultural groups, the Indian diaspora and businesses.
The Mission organised three Media Symposiums: in La Paz in October 2025, in Santa Cruz in February 2026 and in Cochabamba in March 2026. At these, senior media representatives were introduced to India through presentations and discussions on India's economic growth, digital technologies and innovation, agriculture, mining, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
The brief gives no information on air connectivity between India and Bolivia.
Honorary consuls
The register lists no honorary consuls of Bolivia in India. Where honorary consuls exist, they have limited powers and do not offer the full range of an embassy's services. Visa and other consular requirements should always be confirmed with the Embassy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia in New Delhi.
