  • Agartala
  • Chennai

  • Mumbai

It lists no honorary consulates of Bangladesh in India. The addresses and telephone numbers that the MEA register lists for these offices are shown on the Bangladesh country page on Diplo.

National day

The national day of Bangladesh is 26 March (Independence and National Day).

Visas

According to the MEA brief of July 2026, India is currently providing visa services through 5 centres across Bangladesh to facilitate greater people-to-people contacts. Visa operations, which were restricted earlier due to security concerns, have been gradually expanded, and the grant of tourist visas resumed on 28 June 2026. These arrangements concern Indian visas for Bangladeshi nationals.

The brief contains no information on Bangladeshi visa requirements for Indian travellers. Travellers, students and business visitors going to Bangladesh should check current requirements with the High Commission in New Delhi or with the consulate serving their area.

Rail and road travel

Six pre-1965 rail links between the two countries have been restored, including the Agartala-Akhaura rail link, inaugurated in November 2023. Three passenger train services, the Maitri Express, Bandhan Express and Mitali Express, were in operation earlier but remain temporarily suspended since July 2024 due to security considerations. Goods train operations continue.

Bus services continue on selected routes, according to the brief. It does not name the routes or give schedules, which should be confirmed through official channels before travel.

Medical treatment for veterans and service personnel

According to the brief, India continues to facilitate medical treatment for Bangladesh's Liberation War veterans under the Muktijoddha Medical Scheme. It also facilitates treatment for serving personnel of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and their wards in Indian Armed Forces hospitals. The brief does not describe how to apply, so details of these arrangements should be obtained through official channels.

Honorary consuls

Bangladesh's offices listed in the register outside New Delhi are consulates, not honorary consulates. Honorary consuls, where a country has them, have limited powers and cannot offer the full range of consular services. Visa, passport and other consular requirements should be confirmed with the High Commission of Bangladesh in New Delhi or with the relevant consulate.
